movie recommendations.

last night, simon and i made a big bowl of popcorn, dimmed the lights and curled up on the couch together to watch a movie.

the only problem was... the movie. (rockets, grenades, oh my.)

for two people who love watching movies, we always struggle to find one that we're both excited to watch. i tend to like smart, funny or suspenseful films. simon, on the other hand, describes his ideal movie as "one that has dragons in it." :)

previous favorites we've agreed on include the ocean's movies, inception and the departed.

do you have any recommendations for us? thank you!

enlighten up! or not so much.

my dears,
have you seen this documentary about an average, smart (albeit skeptical) guy who travels the globe in an attempt to understand and learn about the practice of yoga?

i watched it last night, and i have to confess... i have such mixed feelings. i don't usually write negative things on this blog, but as someone who practices yoga regularly and wants to be a yoga teacher, i feel like it's important to set the record straight.

so much of the movie is over-the top, biased, stereotypical, and poorly edited. not to mention that the writer and producer of the movie clearly has a strong agenda. she projects spiritual questions and possible "awakenings", she consistently patronizes him, and last but not least, she seems disappointed that he doesn't end up having some sort of karmic transformation. seriously?

this is not what yoga is about. it actually made me a little embarrassed. i literally watched most of the film with my arms crossed.

i hope that people who have seen, or will see, the movie realize that it's one viewpoint that doesn't do the practice of yoga justice.

yoga, as i know it, is a personal practice. it is not something that i can force upon others (or would want to). it's a physical practice that has non-physical benefits for some. it is non-dogmatic, all-inclusive, and non-judgmental. and no, it is not customary to be forced into a pose, be asked about your birthday, or be expected to bow down to anyone.

not surprisingly, the only part i really loved about the film took place in india. and that is because india is a magical place. the end.

now i'm really really curious... what did you all think?

february theme week: favorite films part 5

last but not least, one of my favorite movies of all time is... office space!

i think it might be the funniest. movie. ever. and you might have already guessed it but my favorite line in the whole film is: "corporate accounts payable, nina speaking. just a moment."

the movie is so brilliant because it's so true. am i right? ahh, nothing like cubicle humor.

so, that, my friends, concludes my "favorite films" theme week. since i've shared my top five, i'm dying to know what yours are! do tell. (and it's pouring buckets here again, so simon and i might need some recommendations for a movie marathon tonight.)

lots of love, and have a wonderful weekend!

my favorite christmas flicks.

every year i love to curl up on the couch and watch the same holiday movies over and over again. they really make me happy.

(i know some of these are only loosely related to the holidays, but hey... i still love them!)

what are your favorites?

relator.

i'm not usually a fan of scarlett johansson, but this song rocks. enjoy!

audrey love.

i've been on an audrey hepburn film kick recently. the other night i had an audrey marathon complete with a glass of white wine and soft pajamas.

these are the ones i've watched so far...

and these are up next on my viewing schedule...

have you seen any audrey films? which is your favorite? (and aren't these movie posters fabulous?)
