it's friday!

...
hm. the past few days have been...
interesting. :) as it turns out, life is full of surprises.

last night, in honor of my
terrible-horrible-no-good-very-bad-mood, i threw myself a little pity party. i curled up on the couch, wrapped myself in a big fuzzy white blanket, and cracked open a beer. and then i sat there for a while and just wallowed. it was good times.

here's the thing: one of the greatest lessons i took away from my yoga teacher training was to embrace emotion. often in life, when feelings start to bubble up, whether it's sadness, frustration, anger, whatever; we push the emotions away because it's temporarily easier. (unfortunately the feelings just come back to haunt us at a later stage.)

so... for better or for worse, when i'm in a crappy mood, i embrace it. and i was. luckily, later in the evening, simon came home and made me laugh hysterically. (is there a funnier word than poopsmith?)

so, tell me, what do you do when you're in a grumpy mood?

xo.

p.s. i may have also eaten a lot of cheese. :)

a recent conversation.

the other day i lost my camera charger. i rummaged through every closet, opened every drawer, lifted up every pillow, and still couldn't find it. the grumpies ensued.

i was so irritated, in fact, i think simon was temporarily afraid of me. after i calmed down, we had the following chat...

me: are you sure you want to marry me?
simon: yup.
me: even though i am a pain in the butt sometimes?
simon: yup.
me: even though i lose stuff?
simon: yup.
me: even though i'll never ever be able to take pictures ever again? (dramatic, much?)
simon: yup.
me: just checking.

phew. :)

p.s. and in case you're wondering... i have since charged my camera with a friends' charger. double phew.

lately...

... i have been struggling with envy. does this ever happen to you? it's so unbecoming isn't it? boo. i have such
a wonderful life; i don't know why it surfaces.

maybe what i need is a big bowl of ice cream and some really bad television.

or maybe... what i really need, is that crazy thing called perspective. :)

tell me, do you ever feel this way? if so, how do you snap out of it?

the blues.

do you ever get the sunday night blues?

it's the i-don't-want-the-weekend-to-be-over-because-i-don't-want-to-go-back-to-work-or-school feeling, which is often accompanied by an anxious glance at the clock in the late evening, and then full-blown grumpiness.

you say to yourself: how did it get so late? how many hours or minutes do i have left of the weekend? ugh. ugh. ugh.

i had a bad case of it last night. the only thing that made me feel better was some hot chocolate.

what do you do when you've got the sunday blues?

yoga for anxiety, part two.

ladies, this is my all-time favorite pose. in the world. ever.

it's called viparita karani or "legs up the wall pose." it helps me in ways i can't even describe. something about it is just incredibly relaxing and healing (and fun!)

to begin, grab a bolster, or fold a blanket (or two) lengthwise and place it a few inches from a wall. then, as gracefully as you can, (ha!) scoot your bum towards the wall, eventually letting your legs rest comfortably. one trick for getting into the posture is sitting next to a wall with the side of your body and your knees bent into the chest. bring your lower back onto the floor while sweeping the legs up onto the wall.

if you're really in the mood, you can drape a scarf or scented eye pillow over your eyes... and the swooning can commence. stay there for as long as you like. to come out, bring your knees to your chest and roll to your side.

if it feels better, feel free to remove the blankets or bolster. the pose will still work its magic.
